Calaveras Fire District Races Decided

Voters went to the polls in three Calaveras County fire districts Tuesday to choose directors and, in one district, to further decide an appropriations measure.

In the Ebbbetts Pass Fire Protection District the top three candidates to fill the three vacancies with four-year terms were Ronald A. Andrade with 26.7 percent; Joseph E. Cadorette with 27.7 percent; and Jon Dashner with 13.1 percent of the vote.

In the Murphys Fire Protection District – with two vacancies with four-year terms – the winners were Philip A. Philips with 42.3 percent and Helen Behrbaumat at 37.3 percent.

The Foothill Fire Protection District had five vacancies with terms to be determined. Winners in that race were John Loverin with 16.3 percent; Samuel Hoffman at12.3 percent; Roland “Bill” Bailey with 10.9 percent; John W. Liptrot with 7.8 percent; and Connie Gleason with 7.1 percent.

Calaveras County “Measure A” asked: “Shall the appropriations limitations of the Murphys Fire Protection District be changed from $98,760 per year to $250,000 per year for the fiscal years of 2003-2004, 2004-2005, 2005-2006, and 2006-2007?” Nearly 74 percent of the voters said Yes, 26.2 percent voted No.
