Judge Orders Bustamante to Retrieve Campaign Money

A Fresno judge has ordered Cruz Bustamante to “make a good faith effort” to retrieve some of the nearly $4 million Bustamante claims has already been spent on air time for his ads fighting a ballot measure.
The amended order came just four days after the judge ruled the lieutenant governor must stop using a campaign finance loophole to collect money in an old campaign committee account.
Bustamante was ordered to return any such funds still in his possession.
At question is $3.8 million Bustamante received from Indian tribes and unions.
Bustamante campaign attorney Lance Olson says the money was completely expended before the complaint was filed and under the contracts, cannot be retrieved.
