Calaveras Fire District Elections Warm Up

The Calaveras Fire District general district elections will be held on Nov. 4 to fill director vacancies for a variety of fire districts in Calaveras County.

Also on the ballot is a measure that would increase Murphys Fire Protection District´s share of property-tax revenue.

The nomination period closed August 8.

Ebbetts Pass Fire Protection District board has three vacancies with four-year terms. Running for the open seats are appointed incumbent Ronald A. Andrade of Arnold, retired Arnold resident Jon Dashner, and two incumbents from Arnold, Joseph E. Cadorette and Thomas “Tom” Sullivan.

Foothill Fire Protection District board has five vacancies with terms to be determined. Appointed incumbents are Roland “Bill” Bailey, Samuel Hoffman, John W. Liptrot and Neal Williams. Also vying for the open seats are Connie Gleason, custodian/gardener; John Loverin, firefighter/paramedic; William P. McFall, paramedic; Vincent Tafuri, assistant fire chief, and Gary West, general contractor.

Murphys Fire Protection District board has two vacancies with four-year terms. Running for the seat are appointed incumbents Helen Behrbaum and Philip A. Phillips, and carpenter Michael “Mike” White.

Measure A asks, “Shall the appropriations limitations of the Murphys Fire Protection District be changed from $98,760 per year to $250,000 per year for the fiscal years of 2003-2004, 2004-2005, 2005-2006 and 2006-2007?”
