Homeless Widow Wins Lotto
A widow who has lived in a Carson motel for the past three years is the sole winner of the $91 million Super Lotto Plus jackpot. Patricia Frierson bought the winning ticket Saturday around lunchtime at a liquor store down the block from the EconoLodge where she´d been living.
Village Liquors manager John Kim says Frierson was a regular customer. The store also gets a share of the winnings, to the tune of 0.5 percent of the jackpot.
Kim says the store´s phone has been ringing off the hook with calls from well-wishers and the media.
The desk clerk at the Carson EconoLodge says Frierson called to say she´d be moving out in a few days.
