Modesto Mayor Charged With Felonies

The mayor of Modesto has been charged with ten felonies for allegedly underreporting his income and loans. Prosecutors say Mayor Carmen Sabatino was charged yesterday with perjury, conflict of interest and misuse of public funds.
Sabatino, who plans to seek re-election this fall, says he has done nothing wrong.
Sabatino told The Modesto Bee he believes the charges are based on misinformation from his political rivals. The mayor did not immediately return calls from The Associated Press.
