About 120 firefighters are battling a wildfire south of Groveland this morning. District Ranger John Swanson says the “Merced Fire” has burned about 30 acres.
“It had the potential to get much larger,” Swanson said. “Good progress has been made, but there is still some open line which has the potential for problems as the day heats up and the winds start blowing on the fire,” he said.
Swanson says the fire is burning near a heavily used recreation area, and firefighters are keeping up with it.
Right now there´s no estimate for containment. Officials believe it was likely human caused.
