With ever-tightening budgets across the state, many rural fire districts are having a hard time acquiring equipment. But the San Andreas Fire Protection District just received manna from McClellan Air Force Base.
Fire Chief Don Young said he penned a letter to fire officials in Sacramento over a year ago, outlining equipment the district might like to add to its firefighting arsenal. Since the federal government was decommissioning McClellan, Young said the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department was absorbing the baseÂ´s fire fighting equipment.
“They had some engines they couldnÂ´t use,” Young said. So the San Andreas district just got a slightly used fire engine for free.
