Muir Actor Elected To Mariposa Supervisors

Sponsored by:

An actor who has made a career out of portraying environmentalist John Muir for visitors at Yosemite National Park has been elected to a position that will enable him to look after the park.

Lee Stetson was elected to the Mariposa County Board of Supervisors in November. He was sworn into office yesterday.

Stetson has played Muir in one-man performances in the Yosemite Valley for more than two decades.

Though he´s well versed in the environmentalist´s life and lore, he says he wants to be set apart from Muir, the founding president of the Sierra Club who died in 1914.

A Massachusetts native, Stetson has been playing Muir at Yosemite since 1982. He says although he will still do a few Muir performances, he will slow down his acting career to serve the county.
