Mobile Home Destroyed By Flames

Sponsored by:

Two elderly Tuolumne County residents survived a mobile home fire thanks to a passing motorist this morning.

At about six thirty, resident Scott Shade was on his way to work, when he saw flames in the windows of a doublewide trailer on Shaws Flat Road near Springfield in Columbia. Shade says the residents were still sleeping, so he banged on the windows to wake them up. Everyone was ok and they were able to retrieve a small chest full of personal items…the couple was sitting on that chest as firefighters began mopping up.

Fire officials say it€™s amazing that a building right next to the home, “Jeans Antiques,” was not damaged.

The mobile home was completely destroyed but there were no injuries. County Fire Marshall Kary Hubbard says the cause of the blaze is under investigation.
