Calaveras County Supervisors agreed to pump nearly 25,000 dollars into the county senior meals program to keep it operating.
The board yesterday voted 4-to-1 to help cover potential cost overruns for the Area 12 Agency on Aging home-delivered meals for home-bound senior citizens.
Even with the cash infusion, the program remains in the red and could face cuts – or even closure – if the county doesn´t come up with an even larger bailout next week. Area 12 agency officials say the agency isn´t receiving as much revenue as it did when previous operators ran the meals program.
The Area 12 agency board, made up of one supervisor each from Alpine, Amador, Calaveras, Mariposa and Tuolumne counties, is scheduled to consider the program´s plight March 6.
