Charges Against SFPD Chief Dropped

Sponsored by:

Felony obstruction charges have been dropped against San Francisco´s police chief and the assistant chief. District Attorney Terence Hallinan asked a judge today to drop the charges against Chief Earl Sanders and Assistant Chief Alex Fagan. The judge agreed.

Hallinan said he made the decision in the interest of justice and after weighing the evidence carefully. The D.A. says he´ll still prosecute three rookies who allegedly assaulted two men in November. One of those officers is Alex Fagan Junior — the son of the assistant chief. Hallinan also says he´ll prosecute five other top officers accused of obstructing the investigation into the alleged assault.

All the officers pleaded innocent last week.
