Al Qaeda Had Targeted Bay Area Bridges

Sponsored by:

The FBI says it is re-evaluating the likelihood that the San Francisco Bay area´s three major bridges are at high risk for a terror attack. Investigators say they are looking at reports that Al Qaeda had targeted and then rejected the Golden Gate, Bay, and San Mateo bridges.

The San Francisco Chronicle says the reports surfaced earlier this month when a high-ranking Al Qaeda member told investigators terrorists had been eyeing the three bridges. But now – the FBI´s Northern California field office says there´s currently no credible threat to the three spans. However – an intelligence official told the newspaper that just because those targets were abandoned once doesn´t mean they aren´t at risk.
