Navy Sub Wants Nevada Wolfpack For Mascot
Two hundred baseball caps and shirts from the University of Nevada, Reno are on the way to the crew of the USS Nevada, a Navy submarine that is adopting the Wolf Pack as a mascot. Officers of the USS Nevada contacted school officials this week asking for caps, decals and other athletic apparel for the sub and crew.
UNR athletic director Chris Ault says the school is glad to do whatever it can to help. The USS Nevada was commissioned in August 1986 and is based in Washington state at Naval Submarine Base Bangor. It has a two rotating crews, each with 170 sailors and 19 officers, and is assigned to Submarine Group Nine. Lieutenant Tom Kelly told school officials he envisions his sailors walking around the boat in Nevada Wolf Pack hats and decorating parts of the boat with Wolf Pack items.
