Environmentalists, Hispanics Make Housing Push
Environmentalists are teaming up with Hispanic activists to push more housing growth into California´s cities. The Sierra Club and Mexican-American Legal Defense and Education Fund also want more homes for lower wage residents.
Both are sponsoring a bill to accomplish that by slowing suburban expansion.
The bill would make cities establish 20 year growth zones like those that curb growth in Oregon. Homebuilders say they are sympathetic to the bill´s goals. But they say forcing it on cities is bad public policy.
