Davis´ Popularity Sliding
Governor Davis has seen his popularity slide to a record low. However – a Field Poll released today says a majority of voters think an election to recall him is a bad idea.
Some 67 percent of those responding to the poll say they have an unfavorable opinion of Davis – compared to 27 percent who hold a favorable opinion.
In September, the last time pollsters surveyed voters on the governor, 46 percent were negative.
Poll director Mark DiCamillo says the results are by far the worst results ever for Davis. With 65 percent saying they disapprove of the job he´s doing, Davis has the worst job performance rating of any sitting governor in the 55 years the poll has been conducted. At the same time, respondents were not much more enthusiastic about recalling Davis.
An organized effort to unseat the governor was launched last month. However, only 62 percent of voters interviewed say they would be willing to sign the petitions needed to qualify the measure for the ballot.
