The work of union organizer Cesar Chavez will be celebrated next week with the issuance of a U.S. Postal Service stamp in his honor. The stamp will be released this week. And local notables will join postal officials and representatives from Chavez´s United Farm Workers union next week to celebrate the release of the 37-cent stamp.
The history of the union and Chavez is fraught with bitter labor battles in the Salinas Valley. Chavez spent two weeks in the Monterey County Jail for advocating a boycott against a Salinas grower.
