Jeans Maker Turns 150 Today
Say Happy Birthday to Levi Strauss and Company. The famous maker of 501s turns 150 today.
It was 150 years ago that Levi Strauss started his company making heavily constructed jeans for Gold Rush-era workers.
Beginning Friday, San Francisco-based Levi´s will allow the public into its glass lobby to view exhibits detailing the jeansmaker´s place in Western lore.
The exhibits include jeans dating back to the 1880s and letters from actors Cary Grant and Gene Autry praising the tough-as-nails pants.
