San Francisco Eateries To Take Food Stamps

Another first for San Francisco. It´s now the only county in the state to allow people to use food stamps in restaurants.
City officials said yesterday that 14 Subway sandwich shops and one neighborhood eatery have agreed to take the stamps from elderly, homeless and disabled residents.
The thinking behind the move is that the elderly and disabled have a hard time shopping and then cooking meals and the homeless have no place to store or prepare food. Federal regulations permit seniors, the disabled and the homeless to use food stamps for restaurant meals. However, only 18 states have implemented the changes.
