Forest Ready for Memorial Day Weekend
Forest Service officials are reminding people who will be camping in the Stanislaus National Forest over Memorial Day weekend to have fun, but to also be cautious.
Forest Service Spokesman Pat Kaunert says the storms and added snowpack in April has lead to fast moving streams and rivers in the forest.
Among other things, officials remind everyone to always keep careful watch over children near swift water, always watch your footing near slippery or snow covered stream banks, and always wear a life jacket when fishing in swift water.
Kaunert adds that people should never try to cross fast moving water, because the currents can be very strong.
