Anthrax Threat Lands Chico Man In Jail
A Chico man has been arrested in connection with a threat to send anthrax to a weekly newspaper because of the cost of viewing its online personal ads.
Police say Deric Jeffery Braito was arrested yesterday by Chico police and FBI agents. He was being held in the Butte County Jail.
Authorities suspect that Braito sent an e-mail to the Chico News & Review in which he made the threat. A police investigator says the online ads cost $7 to view — and then there is a $30 fee if people want to make contact. Investigators say Braito was unhappy with the fee policy — although they found no sign of anthrax in his apartment.
