Burns Is New Lumber Queen

The Lumber Jubilee has a new queen for 2003.

Fifteen-year-old Summerville High School sophomore Megan Burns was crowned the 54th Tuolumne Lumber Jubilee Queen Friday evening. Jubilee ticket sales determine the winner of the contest.

The decision went down to the wire between Burns and 18 year-old Susan Huntoon, with the judges counting votes twice to make sure. Queen Burns says she sold 810 tickets and was selling them right up to Thursday night.

Other contestants vying for queen this year were Jessica Cowper and Allysa Mikesell.

The Lumber Jubilee continues today with the parade at 11 a.m., plus the carnival and lots of family activities. The logging competition is planned for Sunday.
