Bike Rider Killed In Plunge From Bridge

A bicyclist died after plunging off the Rainbow Bridge near Groveland Saturday morning.

Details are sketchy, but the highway patrol reports an unidentified bicycle rider fell from the Highway 120 bridge to the South Fork of the Tuolumne River below just after 11 a.m. Saturday.

Witnesses says the person on the bicycle fell off the bridge nearly 200 feet to the river area below.

Groveland firefighters and rope rescue team members as well as emergency personnel from Tuolumne County Sheriff department and Stanislaus National Forest were called in to recover the victim on the rocks below.

Name of the victim has not been released.
