Plane Strikes Columbia Airport Fuel Tank

Sponsored by:

A small airplane crashed into a large fuel tank at Columbia Airport this morning.

Deb Fish with the Tuolumne County Fire says a pilot was standing outside his plane at about 10 this morning. “It started rolling away from him, so he tried to jump in the plane and stop it,” she said. “The plane did kind of connect with a fuel tank,” Fish said. The pilot suffered an injury to his hand.

Fish says there was no significant damage to the 10,000 gallon tank, but it will have to be checked out by the manufacturer before fueling will resume at the airport.
