The countdown is underway, as CalTrans workers add their finishing touches to the East Sonora Expressway.
The opening ceremony for the bypass was last Thursday, and during the overnight hours, the last details will be taken care of, according to CHP Officer Tom Wills.
“During the night they´re going to finish up the striping, and then they will be actually opening up the entire roadway. So the lights will be activated, and the entire roadway will be open at that particular point,” Wills said Monday.
Wills added it might be a rough transition for some, and had advice for Tuesday´s motorists: “Just slow down, be aware, take your time. Be prepared for traffic to stop quickly and suddenly. Look for a lot of confused people. People are going to get lost now.”
As for predicting exactly where problems might arise: “We don´t know where the backups are going to start. It´s basically a new ball game for everyone.”
