Firefighters are battling a wildfire burning at New Melones Lake on the Tuolumne County side, The fire is off Highway 49 about 1/4 mile east of the New Melones Visitors Center.
The fire was first reported at 3:45 p.m. this afternoon and is about 35 to 40 acres in size now burning up from the lake.
Sheriff boat patorl deputies are heading to that area of the lake to get boat that are now in the area watching the fire out of there. The boats are interferring with helicopters trying to get water out of the lake…
fire officials says the fire has crested a hill and there is one house that could be threatened near the visitors center… Fire units are moving in for structure protection in the Jack Ass Hill area.
Aircraft and helicoptes are dropping water and retardant on the fire and and additional ground units are heading that way. Smoke is visiable
