State’s Pumpkins Headed Overseas
It may seem early to be thinking about jack-o-lanterns, but California pumpkin growers have already started shipping their crop. A few pumpkins have been harvested and shipped to Hawaii and Japan, in order to arrive in plenty of time for Halloween. Growers typically stagger plantings to provide early maturing pumpkins for overseas buyers. Farmers say their other fields are maturing right on schedule, and predict an excellent pumpkin crop if rain holds off.
