Firefighters continue their battle against the fires burning in northern California.

The Power Fire in the Amador Ranger District of the Eldorado National Forest has burned 12-thousand acres and is 35 percent contained.

This is the fire that is 17 miles east of Pioneer.

There are road closures in effect: Highway 88 is closed from Omo Ranch to Mormon Emigrant Trail due to the heavy smoke and the road to the Bear River Reservoir is closed for the safety of the nearly 11-hundred firefighters at the scene.

The Fred´s Fire in the Placerville Ranger District of the forest has burned 5000 acres and is 10 percent contained.

Full containment is now expected on Sunday evening.

This fire is north of Kyburz and Highway 50 and is the reason Kyburz and Silver Fork have been evacuated.

Two people have been hurt fighting this blaze.

Nearly 500 firefighters are on the scene of the Fred´s Fire.
