Lowe’s To Employ 150 In Sonora

A new, big, home improvement store is coming to the Sonora Area.

Lowe´s has finalized a deal to build a 116-thousand square foot store on Old Wards Ferry Road. Mike Jones with California Gold Development said Wednesday it´s been in the works for a while now. He says they´ve been aware of the need even longer.

“They track… sales with ZIP codes, both on checks and credit cards, and they… know that a lot of their buisiness that goes to their Stockton and Modesto stores comes from Tuolumne County,” Jones said.

Partners California Gold Development and the Ray Sanguinetti Family comprise the Sonora Developers LLC.

Jones says over 150 people will eventually work at the store, most of those jobs will be full time, and most will be local hires.

Jennifer Smith from Lowe´s Public Relations says competition means the customer will win out in the end.

“Lowe´s and our single largest competitor comprise only about 20% of the home improvement retail market. So that means 80%, or the larger market share, belongs to others, whether that´s independent, other retailers, et cetera,” Smith said Thursday.

However, as for confirming anything specific about their plans for building in the Mother Lode….

“I can certainly confirm that we´re evaluating additional opportunities in the state as part of our nationwide expansion plans. I´m unable to speak to a specific site, because it´s our corporate policy that we´re unable to comment unless we have in fact we´ve closed on a specific property,” Smith explained.

Lowe´s has 62 Home improvement stores in the state of California.
