Snowmobiler Escapes Run-In With Train
A Truckee woman is recovering today after tangling with a train while snowmobiling on a trestle near Kingvale.
The California Highway Patrol says 33-year-old Mary Luedtke was following her husband westbound along the Union Pacific tracks when an eastbound freight approached. Her husband was able to accelerate out of the way.
Luedtke slowed to a stop but the passing train struck her leg below the knee. The train engineer called for help and the victim was flown to Truckee by CHP helicopter and released from Tahoe Forest Hospital after being treated for a broken leg.
