A holiday delay for the Sonora City Council meeting. When the council gathers- scheduled this week for Tuesday evening – the sales tax increase proposal is back on the table.
The proposed ballot measure, voted down recently 3- to 2 by the council — would increase the city´s sales tax by a 1/2 cent on the dollar and would help fund hiring more cops, firefighters and public works personnel.
Councilman David Sheppard says… he needed more information and felt the ballot measure would not get the needed votes until the public was better informed on why the city wants to raise the sales tax.
The council meets tomorrow night at 5 p.m. in City Hall.
