Calaveras Home and Garden Show Draws Good Crowd

Saturday´s light showers and threatening skies on Sunday did little to deter visitors from attending the 2004 Home, Garden and Recreation Show at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds.

“The whole show went very well,” said Vip Hale, event organizer.

Vendors inside and outside two large halls at the fairgrounds enjoyed the spring weather and the bustle of the crowd.

“I couldn´t have asked for more,” said Bill McManus, owner of the Deck Doctor in Murphys. “The crowds were good and I was so busy I couldn´t take a break either day. I got a tremendous number of leads.”

Sunday saw 31 car enthusiasts compete in the “Run What Ya Brung” car show. Tom Downum´s 1964 Plymouth Barracuda won the “People´s Choice” award, Bill Gill´s 1967 Camero convertible won the “Guy´s Choice” trophy and the “Gal´s Choice” winner was Stacie Dominik´s 1966 Chevrolet Chavelle.

The 2004 Home, Garden and Recreation Show was sponsored by Bartel Kitchen and Baths, Calaveras Lumber, California Homes Direct, Kinetico Quality Water Systems, KKBN, KVML and Star 92.7 radio, Mark Twain St. Joseph´s Hospital and Pinnell´s Carpet One.

Hale said next year´s dates are set for April 16 and 17 and almost half of this year´s vendors have signed up for the 2005 show.

“I will definitely be at next year´s show,” McManus said.
