Tuolumne County area firefighters responded to a wildfire south of the town of Tuolumne, off Apple Colony Road near the Baker Ranch this afternoon. The fire was said to beabout an acre in size and burning in thick grass and brush, moving down hill. This fire was first reported at 3 p.m. Sunday.
A firefighting helicopter from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection Columbia Air Attack Base was also called to battle the blaze.
Firefighters were later diverted to a second fire on Apple Colony Road. Fire officials report it was an escaped debris burn.
