Groveland Fire 100 Percent Contained Now

Sponsored by:

The fire burning near Groveland between Ferretti Road and Highway 120 is now 100 percent contained.

County fire spokeswoman Debra Fish said this morning officials have up-dated the estimated acreage burned down to 73-acres. Only one structure was lost in the fire, an outbuilding. “No other structures are currently threatened,” Fish said.

She says firefighters stopped the blaze just 3/4 of a mile from Ferretti Road where Ron Rumbaugh lives in the Yosemite Vista Estates community and watched the fire bear down on his neighborhood from his back deck yesterday afternoon. “It was just boiling over the hill and your see the tree up there just burst into flames,” Rumbaugh said yesterday. “I thought it was going to come right down in here.”

Fish said the fire was stopped about a 1/2-mile from Highway 120. Overnight temperatures in the upper 30s helped fire crews get a line around the fire.

More firecrews, and equipment will be on scene all day. Area residents will also see helicopters and air tankers making water drops on hot spots, as well today.
