Fatal Wreck on Highway 108

One person is dead, another injured in a single-vehicle rollover accident on Highway 108 near Montezuma Junction.

The wreck occurred on the highway below Jamestown on the way to Chinese Camp.

The Chevrolet Suburban was going between 80 and 90 miles per hour, says CHP officer Tom Wills, and it´s also believed that the driver was talking on a cellular phone.

Wills says the Suburban, for some reason, went across the center line into the oncoming, eastbound lane, then swerved back across the westbound lane, ran into a roadside culvert, and overturned.

The driver was ejected from the vehicle and killed.

The passenger is believed to have had his seatbelt on, and was transported to a local hospital for injuries.

Following the wreck, no lanes were blocked by the Suburban, although emergency vehicles along the side of the highway slowed traffic, along with vehicles whose occupants were trying to catch a glimpse of the accident scene.
