San Andreas, CA — The Calaveras County Master Gardeners are applying for a $50,000 grant that would allow them to incorporate recycled tires into the demonstration garden at the Government Center in San Andreas.
The Board of Supervisors approved applying for the grant on behalf of the gardeners Monday. It is now up to the California Integrated Waste Management Board to make a decision.
The grant´s goal is to divert tires from going to the county´s landfills. The tires would be reused for colored rubber bark and rubber sidewalks.
Part of the grant calls for an educational display, which will be posted near the garden.
