Horses Seized In San Andreas

Sponsored by:

San Andreas, CA — Charges of criminal neglect will soon be filed against Jana Davis of Stockton, the owner of five retired racehorses being kept in San Andreas.

After one year of investigation, Calaveras County Animal Control last Friday seized the five horses from a property fronting Highway 49. Concerned motorists were the first to notify officials of the horses´ sickly condition.

Throughout the year some of those citizens and neighbors have been feeding the horses, which is why they weren´t removed earlier, the Sheriff´s Department said.

Lt. Eddie Ballard said he plans to file charges with the District Attorney´s office next week.

The horses are being kept at an undisclosed location within the county and are expected to make a full recovery.

Davis said her horses are perfectly healthy and what Animal Control is doing is illegal. She maintains she visited the property everyday to feed her horses.
