Arnold Man Seriously Injured In Head-On Collision
San Andres, CA — A 21-year-old Arnold man is recovering from injuries he sustained in a head-on collision in Murphys over the weekend.
CHP says Josh Rice was driving a small GMC pickup truck eastbound on Highway 4 Saturday morning when he allowed the truck to cross the double center line and collide head-on with a twin axle dump truck driven by 43-year-old Debra Button of Altaville. Police say Button took evasive action but was unable to avoid impact.
Reports indicate that Rice was trapped in the vehicle for more than an hour. Authorities closed Highway 4 for about an hour and a half while emergency personnel worked to extract Rice from the pickup.
Rice was airlifted to a Sacramento area trauma center for treatment of major injuries.
Investigators are awaiting toxicology reports to determine if Rice was under the influence at the time.
