Costs Go Up On Already Pricey Bypass
Angels Camp, CA – The Angels Camp Bypass has nearly doubled in cost since first planned.
Calaveras County´s transportation agency received a report from Caltrans on the status of the project Wednesday night.
The bypass would begin at Highways 4 and 49 and cross over Murphys Grade Road out to Highway 4 near the Rolleri Bypass.
Consultants say construction costs are topping out at $30 million compared to the original $16 million estimate. As a result of the rising cost and lack of available funding, Caltrans is pushing back the construction date to the 2009/2010 fiscal year.
In the meantime Caltrans expects to be done with design and right of way acquisition by June 2006.
