District Reconsiders New School Plans
Copperopolis, CA — Copperopolis school officials are considering holding off on opening a new elementary school for the growing area.
Originally the Copper Cove School was set to open in the fall of 2009 but now with a perceived lull in growth, officials are reconsidering that date.
In 2004 school district voters OK´d a $3.5 million bond for the new school.
The Mark Twain Union Elementary School District hosted a study session last week on a timeline for building.
Officials and the community looked at school enrollment data, housing projections and other demographic information for the area. Consultants say that the number of area students hasn´t increased as first predicted.
They also said that the slow growth could have something to do with the delay in the build out of Oak Canyon Ranch. The large mixed use development was tied up for a year in litigation.
The district plans more meetings to continue discussing the school´s construction timeline.
