Calaveras Board Hears Lawsuit Updates

Sponsored by:

San Andreas, CA — While one court case against Calaveras County has been dismissed another is set to go to trial next week.

County Counsel Jim Jones gave the Board of Supervisors updates on the two cases during closed session meetings Monday.

Luis Torres of Oakland filed suit against the county in August for the loss of his fingertips during a rope swing accident at Lake Tulloch last July 4.

Jones maintains the swing was on private property and the county was not in control of it. He said he was able to persuade Torres´ attorney the claim was illegitimate.

Torres´ attorney Steven Jacobsen of Oakland said he filed another lawsuit against the landowner Red Mountain Resorts, LLC in a San Francisco court.

Meanwhile developer Guy Meyers will have his day in court with the county November 17.

Meyers is suing the county for creating the countywide Road Impact Mitigation fee, which charges developers fees for their projects´ impact on local roads. Meyer contends that the program is unconstitutional.

The case will be heard at 8:30 a.m. in Department 6 of Calaveras County Superior Court.
