Escaped Debris Burn Chars Grassland Near Valley Springs

Sponsored by:

San Andreas, CA — CDF investigators are blaming an escaped debris burn as the cause of a fire that charred 19 acres of grass land outside of Valley Springs Friday morning.

Debra Keenan of CDF says units responded to the property on Berkesey Lane at about 10:30 in the morning.

A total of 11 engines from several agencies were dispatched along with one dozer, one air attack, one helicopter and an air tanker.

Three CDC handcrews were also called out. Keenan says about $3800 in acreage was lost as well as a shed estimated to be worth about $800.

The property owner was cited for burning without a permit.
