Single Vehicle Accident Sparks Fire – Closes Highway 12
San Andreas, CA — A Jamestown man is recovering from moderate injuries sustained in a single vehicle accident that sparked a large grass fire on Highway 12 Friday afternoon.
CHP says 53-year-old James Stahl was driving eastbound near Central Hill Road just before 3:30 when he lost control of the vehicle and left the roadway.
A report indicates that the car impacted a dirt embankment and rolled several times. Officers say Stahl had to be extracted from the car before being flown to Doctor´s Medical Center in Modesto.
Authorities say a lighted warning flare on the scene ignited a grass fire that charred about 7 acres of grass land and closed the highway for almost an hour.
CDF says a total of eight engines responded to the blaze along with one water tender and a bulldozer. A helicopter and an air tanker also responded with two CDC hand crews from Vallecito.
No injuries were reported from the fire.
