Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Deputy Fends Off Pit Bull Attack
Oakdale, CA — A Stanislaus County Sheriff´s Detective is nursing an injured hand after being attacked by a pit bull yesterday.
Detective Joe Mello was conducting an identity theft investigation in Oakdale when he was speaking to the dog´s owner.
A report says that the dog suddenly ran outside and bit Mello on the hand and wouldn´t let go.
After the officer fought the dog off the animal came back for a second attack despite the owner´s attempts to intervene. Mello then fired one round from his service weapon to kill the dog.
Mello was treated and released at an area hospital. Animal Control officers were called to remove the dead animal from the property.
