Father And Daughter Hospitalized After Dump Truck Accident

Sponsored by:

San Andreas, CA — A Mokelumne Hill woman is recovering from serious injuries she sustained in a single vehicle rollover accident Friday night.

CHP says 36-year-old Linda Heise Waymire was riding as a passenger in a 1965 Chevrolet dump truck driven by her father, 67-year-old Ernie Sweet, also of Mokelumne Hill.

CHP says Sweet was driving westbound on West Murray Creek Road at about 7:00 when he apparently became blinded by the sun.

A report says Sweet drove the truck off the left side of the road and down a 1000-foot canyon. Investigators say the two were not wearing seatbelts and were ejected from the truck.

The two reportedly remained unconscious in the canyon for several hours until Sweet was able to climb out and go for help. Paramedics were notified just before 8:30 Saturday morning.

After extensive rescue operations Waymire was flown to Memorial Hospital in Modesto with serious neck injuries.

Sweet was flown to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto with moderate injuries.
