Sonora, CA — The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection is asking people to plan for fire safety in their homes during National Fire Prevention Week.
The theme for 2005 is “Use Candles with Care.” Fire officials say with the increased use of candles in the home, an increase in the number of accidental fires follows.
CDF is also advising people to check smoke detectors and create a home escape plan. Reports indicate that 4,000 people die each year in home fires because they don´t know what to do.
During the fire protection week CDF also suggests going over kitchen safety, fireplace procedure, and match and lighter storage.
