Truck Driver Seriously Injured In 45-Foot Plunge

Sponsored by:

Briceburg, CA — The driver of a tractor-trailer rig that plunged 45 feet into a canyon yesterday is recovering from serious injuries.

CHP says Martin Campos was delivering food supplies to Yosemite National Park when he lost control of the truck on Highway 140 near Briceburg at about 7:30 in the morning.

Campos was apparently rounding a 25-mile-an-hour curve when the truck went over the edge and down a steep slope to a creek bed below.

Officers say it appeared as though Campos was partially ejected from the cab as it fell. Campos was airlifted to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto where he is listed in serious condition.

CDF and Fish and Game officials were called to the scene to clean up an oil spill.
