Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County Tobacco Prevention Coalition is announcing that Wal-Mart will implement a smoke free entryway policy.
Organizers say smoking will be prohibited within 20 feet of all entryways and exits. In spring the coalition members surveyed customers at The Junction Shopping Center and Wal-Mart regarding secondhand smoke.
Of those surveyed 83% feel that breathing in other people´s smoke is a serious problem 57% of the smokers thought an entryway policy was a good idea. Based on the findings, Wal-Mart management took the step of creating a 20-foot “no smoking zone” at their store.
