Children With Matches Cause Two Area Fires

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — CDF says two fires over the weekend were caused by children playing with matches.

CDF spokesman Craig Hart says crews responded to a one and a half acre blaze on Elizabeth Lane in the Crystal Falls area late Friday night.

Hart says seven engines were dispatched along with one water tender and two crews from Baseline Conservation Camp. Damage was set at $450 to the grass, brush and trees.

Hart says the other fire was a 10 by 50-foot spot of grass that was ignited early Saturday afternoon. Crews responded to the Fernwood Drive location with one CDF engine.

Meanwhile firefighters were called to a one acre grass fire near Copperopolis Sunday. Hart says the cause of the blaze is under investigation.

He says three engines and one CDF air attack responded along with a CDF helicopter, two air tankers, and two hand crews from Vallecito.

No injuries were reported in any of the fires.
