CDF Responds To Two Multi-acre Grass Fires
Sonora, CA — CDF says a grass fire near Mokelumne Hill yesterday blackened 33 acres of grassland.
Crews from several agencies responded just before 4:00 in the afternoon with 12 engines, four water tenders and three bulldozers, in addition to one CDF air attack, two helicopters and four air tankers.
Five hand crews from Vallecito camp were also dispatched. Damage is estimated at about $6600. One firefighter reported a minor injury.
A short time later, crews responded to another large grass fire on Highway 4.
Craig Hart with CDF says the blaze consumed 30 acres on Telegraph Road.
Firefighters deployed nine engines along with two water tenders and two bulldozers. Also called out were one CDF air attack, one CDF helicopter and four air tankers.
Two hand crews from Baseline Conservation Camp were dispatched to the blaze. Damage is estimated at about $6000.
Hart says the causes of both fires are under investigation.
