Angels Camp Council Considers New Tax
Angel´s Camp City Council members are considering a proposal from City Administrator Tim Shearer to implement a one-cent sales tax to generate funding to alleviate traffic congestion. A rapidly growing population and tourism industry combined with old, narrow streets often leaves traffic bottlenecked in some portions of the rural city. Shearer says the idea is still being studied and would ultimately have to be endorsed by two-thirds of city voters. Angels Camp City Council members meet again next Tuesday. The Council elect a new Mayor and Vice-Mayor at the meeting. The new Mayor will then appoint fellow council members to various committees. The Council is currently headed by Vice-Mayor Curly Middleton.
